Altera is a collaborative world-building project. It's a collection of stories and media that explore futuristic worlds and societies emerging in an alternate universe.

In the world of Altera, the governments and wealthy elite fled to Mars after an apocalyptic event left Earth in ruins. The people who remained discovered a wormhole that led to a new universe, and they set out to explore and build new civilizations. As they encountered different societies and cultures, they found themselves caught in the middle of a complex web of politics and intrigue.

If you are a writer with a passion for science fiction and world-building, we invite you to join us in creating stories set in the world of Altera. Together, we can explore the different societies, cultures, and technologies of this new universe, and craft unique and compelling tales of survival, exploration, and the search for a better life. Whether you are an experienced writer or just starting out, we welcome you to join our collaborative creative writing community and help us to build the world of Altera.

First, you will need to sign up to our site. Go to our login bar on the top right.
Familiarize yourself about Altera by reading the Lore. To read the works collected in the archive, go to Short Stories and Chronicles.

RULES

In order to keep this server a safe and friendly place for everyone, we strive to be as inclusive and open as possible while also maintaining the standards of quality that our fans expect from Altera. This means being sensitive towards all members of our group (viewers, patrons, content creators, and moderators).

Violation of any of these rules will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination from staff positions on board at their discretion.

WE DON'T TOLERATE DICKS!

It's just way easier to be respectful, kind and nice.

General

You must be at least 16 to be a site member.
We do not permit racist, sexist, transphobic or any discriminatory and prejudiced posting or commenting.
No harassment. You will be banned.
No trolling. Critique is fine, but don't be a dick.
If you feel another member is not respecting the rules, please contact staff.
You may not sign onto this site using multiple accounts. If it comes to our attention, we will delete and ban all accounts.
No spam. We define spam as continuous posts of articles or forums that do not follow site rules or premise.

NSFW CONTENT RULE

No sharing, or posting of overly sexualized pictures (which includes avatars). No linking to stories with porn, erotic roleplaying, pornographic content featuring excessive and graphic violence, gratuitous or violent images or videos depicting actual dead bodies, links to NSFW content, or links to sites with NSFW content that is available to the general public.
Sexualization of minors, aged under 18, whether it's real or fictional, is strictly forbidden. Stories may not contain sexual relations that involve minor characters, or depictions of child-looking avatars and characters.

Submissions

Entries should be mostly in English.
ONLY submit/upload a finalized version of your creative work on the file share. If we find that your entry is incomplete, we will delete it.
Plagiarism is strictly prohibited. If it is brought to our attention, we will immediately delete the post and issue a 'major offense' warning. If you are found to continue violating this rule, it is grounds for an immediate permanent ban.
Articles, images, videos or any creative media must comply with our Licensing Policy.
Sexual themes and content that is not pornographic may be acceptable at staff discretion, but staff reserve the right to review or ask you to revise.

THERE IS NO CANON

Recounts of history, religion, philosophies are pieced together by a myriad perspectives, values, voice and narration. Everything in the world can contradict, and so do the articles on the site. While this is the case, articles can still share the same timeline, worlds, characters and reference each other.

GET IDEAS

Having a task of creating a whole brave new world is not a small undertake. Here are some ways to get your wheels turning.

Talk to people on the forums. To start a new thread, go to the Forum homepage and click on the appropriate category. Then click "Create a New Post" and post a thread with a relevant question or information. Some categories you may want to look at are Ideas and Advice.

Ask Radix. It sees all and hears all, and will sometimes grant you resources and wisdom.

SUBMISSIONS

First, you will need sign up to the site. You will be uploading posts and stories via your membership page.

Start by writing a story. You can be creative with this - a quote, made up cryptic language, codes, artwork, soundtrack... almost anything is possible.
We recommend you to work on a copy on a Word Document where you have it stored locally.
Head to the Creative Writing Forum, and post in the Story Ideas Sandbox thread to gather some feedback. Once you're confident that your work is good and suitable for the site, head to "File Share," and pick the appropriate Folder to upload your story/art there.
If you would like to upload images/videos etc, along with your story, please organize them into a folder with your username, then upload that folder onto File Share.
You're done! The staff will come along and review your story and post it within a day. You can then announce your creation in the Article Announcement thread.

Altera is written by authors, and edited by members of the writing community, so we will never air any type of story if it violates our Terms & Conditions or if it doesn't meet our high standards in form (writing style and content), integrity, voice, heart.
